HURRICANE KATRINA AFTERMATH COMMUNIQUE TO ALL MEMBERS OF KAPPA ALPHA PSI FRATERNITY, INC.

Grand Polemarch Samuel C. Hamilton has announced that all members of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity will observe a period of mourning in memory of all of our brothers that are reported lost or may have been taken to the Chapter Invisible as a result of Hurricane Katrina. The period of mourning will be observed until further notice.

In their honor, the Grand Polemarch is hereby requesting that each Chapter, alumni and undergraduate, hold a memorial service during September 2005.

In addition, the Grand Polemarch is requesting that all chapters begin collecting clothing, toys and other items that may be distributed to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. It is requested that these items be held until further notice, as plans are being made for repositories in Baton Rouge, LA; and Biloxi and Gulfport, MS.

Our Southern and Southwestern Provinces are taking the lead in this massive effort, and they will ensure that our contributions reach our brothers, their families and others who have the greatest need.

Please pay close attention to the KappaAlphaPsi1911.com website for additional information on our response to Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath.

PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DRIVE OR TRAVEL TO THE DISASTER AREAS! THE ROADS ARE FILLED WITH EMERGENCY VEHICLES, INCLUDING BUSSES, MILITARY VEHICLES AND EQUIPMENT. IN ADDITION, GAS PRICES ARE AT A PREMIUM.

As we proceed with our long-term response to this disaster, we will be diligently working on the best strategic approach to ensuring maximum results for our people. In this regard, we will be meeting with representatives from 150 premier organizations on Thursday, September 29, 2005, to discuss and implement a coordinated response to Hurricane Katrina.

There has been a fund setup through our Kappa Alpha Psi Foundation that will receive donations from our various chapters and members. The monies will then be earmarked primarily for our brothers and their families that have been devastated by this disaster. Through the efforts of all the members of Kappa Alpha Psi, we will be able to make a huge statement on the relief efforts.
